Cross-site development of a digital roadmap for a global player in process industry

Location ➤ Germany

Customer

The Customer is a global speciality chemicals company and one of the largest suppliers of polymers and synthetic microfibres for many sectors of industry. In Europe the company has around 200 employees at six sites. They are also working on the development and application of innovative high-performance materials for a wide range of sectors, including the automotive, paper, glass and packaging industries, as well as for architects and dentists.

Challenges

The overall objective of the project was to create an Industry 4.0 roadmap for the PV-A, PV-B and film production operations at the two production sites in Germany.

Approach

The results were collected in a 3-day on-site phase in each case. The methodology of the Industrie 4.0 Maturity Index was presented in a kick-off event and the Industrie 4.0 goals were jointly developed. The status quo was determined in a plant tour, workshops and interviews. In a subsequent week, the employees of Industrie 4.0 Maturity Center GmbH developed the Industrie 4.0 roadmap.

Results

  • Analysis and evaluation of the status quo

  • Development of an Industry 4.0 target picture tailored to the customer

  • Derivation of an Industry 4.0 roadmap and detailed description of the individual projects

By looking at the company's entire value chain, the digital transformation could be approached holistically.
