Challenges
The pet food factory is working at its capacity limit and demand continues to rise. There are many assumptions, options & first high level analyses on the bottleneck(s) of the process and how they change from formula to formula. Different investment options to increase the capacity / speed of certain machines exist; however, their impact on the overall process cannot be calculated.
Approach
Create a common understanding of the end-to-end process, define the relevant data describing the process and draft a first version of the process model in SIEMENS Tecnomatix Plant Simulation
Identify existing data from IT systems (e.g., SCADA, ERP), extract the data & conduct first analyses (Python & PowerBI) to understand the status quo and to feed the digital simulation model with specific parameters
Validate the simulation results & simulate further scenarios to evaluation certain improvement options
Results
End-to-End simulation model of the whole factory to simulation different scenarios for changes in the overall setup, improvement of single process steps, changes to the production program and many more
Detailed analysis of historic event data from the process to understand the status quo, to see cause and effect in the process and as input to build the simulation model
